Specimen-Level Identification

Voucher-Linked Specimen Barcoding

Identify individual specimens, down to species.

Every specimen is imaged, extracted, and DNA-barcoded — giving you a species-level identification, a preserved voucher image, and a reference sequence for each one. Built for bulk-sorted bycatch, biodiversity surveys, and museum & collection backlogs.

Specimen-level confirmation A confirmed ID tied to one physical, re-examinable voucher — not just a community-level signal.
A useful complement to eDNA Ground-truth eDNA detections, or build the reference sequences your eDNA assays are matched against.
Voucher & image, included Every specimen is preserved and imaged, so results can be re-checked or re-examined anytime.

What's included

  • Non-destructive extraction of every specimen (voucher preserved)
  • DNA extraction, per specimen
  • COI barcode amplification & library preparation
  • Oxford Nanopore sequencing
  • Species-level ID against reference databases
  • Digital report: image + barcode sequence + taxonomic ID per specimen

Community-Level Detection

Environmental DNA (eDNA) Metabarcoding

Survey whole communities from a single sample.

No specimens required. From an already-collected water, soil, sediment, or air sample, detect all species within your group of interest — fish, invertebrates, general eukaryotes, and more — using a targeted marker. Run one marker, or stack several in the same project.

What's included

  • Extraction from your already-collected samples (water, soil, sediment, or air filters)
  • PCR amplification for each target marker
  • Library indexing, pooling & Oxford Nanopore sequencing
  • Bioinformatics: taxonomic assignment & quality control
  • Digital report: full list of taxa detected within your target group, per sample

Price by volume tier

Every number below is the rate per sample at that tier — not a total for the whole batch.

Academic & nonprofit — per sample Commercial — per sample
1–48 Small batches & pilot runs
$165 academic/nonprofit

Running more than one marker? Each additional target (e.g. stacking fish + invertebrate + general-eukaryote panels on the same samples) adds $12/sample (academic/nonprofit) or $15/sample (commercial).

Which service fits your project?

A first look at how the two services complement each other — many programs use both.

  Specimen DNA Barcoding eDNA Metabarcoding
What it tells you Specimen-level confirmation — one confirmed species ID per physical specimen. Whole-assemblage detection — which taxa in your group(s) of interest are present, based on the marker(s) applied.
Input required Physical specimens, sorted or bulk-collected. An already-collected water, soil, sediment, or air sample/filter.
Resolution Individual specimen, with a preserved voucher & image. Community-wide presence/absence across many taxa at once — not individual counts.
Best for Bulk-sorted bycatch, biodiversity surveys, museum & collection backlogs, reference-library building. Rapid biodiversity screening, monitoring cryptic or elusive species, sites where physical collection is impractical.
Many programs run both: eDNA for broad, fast screening across a site — barcoding to confirm and voucher the specimens that matter most.
